Howlin Rain: Album Review and Live Show Preview
Bagel, Contributor
The latest offering from Howlin Rain is an album that every musician has always wanted the time and resources to make. After over two years of writing and arranging accompanied by legendary producer Rick Rubin, the band has completed their magnum opus. It is something of a flashback to the sounds we grew up with, but modernized with shredding guitar riffs, gospel vocal accompaniment and unbelievable instrumental variety and arrangement.
“The Russian Wilds” is a pure delight.

Stumbling down 10th Street in Arcata, I made my way into Humbrews for the Lila Nelson, Casey Neill and the Norway Rats show.
Wow. It was a well-attended show packed with lots of local "who's whos" like Joych Hough, famous artist Siena Nelson and Kevin BadAss Stach, oh yeah Baby.
Lila was instantly ravishing, as usual, voice of an angel. I found myself sucked down hard and fast (get your mind out of the gutter) into deep dark desperate depression.
Were you eavesdropping on the people behind you in line at the post office? Aww... we know you didn't mean to listen, but did they really just say that? Send it to us and if its funny (or awful) we'll put it in 'The Eavesdroppings' of our next issue. Tell us where you heard it.
Send it here.
