Gotta love a loophole! Casinos & Raw Milk
Selling raw milk is illegal in Humboldt County (and California along with 27 other states).
While this makes me want to laugh and vomit simultaneously at the gall of others telling me what risks I can and can not take with my health, I wonder about all of those people growing Kombucha in their cabinets.
The Bacteria in Kombucha has been responsible for making people sick and killing at least one person, and is a hell of a lot more prevalent than raw milk.
You know what else is illegal? Raw Almonds for Christ sake! They have to be heated to kill whatever before they can be sold. This makes it difficult for raw foods enthusiasts to follow their lifestyle, in which they have already weighed the benefits of uncooked food with the chance of contamination. Let those hippies eat, already!
Alas! there has been created a fancy raw foods loophole, allowing Native American tribes to sell Raw Milk on tribal lands, and in our case, the good ole gas station 777 Pump and Play in Blue Lake.
Mark McAfee of Organic Pastures Dairy has signed a contract with the Rancheria Tribe to place his unpasteurized milk in the store there starting later this week.
Gambling hippies who also need to fill propane tanks rejoice!!!
A number and an adorable name have been provided (via the co-op website) to further your queries. Bonnie at (707) 668-9770 ext. 1033.

Not illegal in California
Wed, 04/06/2011 - 11:58 — AnonymousI'm drinking a glass of McAfee's milk right now, bought at the totally legal, not even really a co-op, more like a Whole Foods with an added layer of pretension co-op in Sacramento.
